Humans are creatures of habit. Habits fascinate me. Habits mark the transition from where our internal patterns shaped by our unique histories come to consciousness. I met my own habits with frustration until I investigated them further. Through improvisation, I discover my patterns and ask myself: Why do I resort to these habitual patterns? What would it mean to break this habit? Does a habit always need to be broken? What would I find if I dove further into this pattern?

With confrontation and investigation through movement, understanding of habits can heal by aiding the understanding of the mind, body, and spirit for where it has been, where it is now, and where it might be in the future. My job as an artist is to investigate habits as the body’s physical language, as patterns and complex channels of subconscious communication and expression. Through repetitious movement, I make sense of my circular, shape-oriented, buoyant, pedestrian, and frenetic yet controlled movement style. It is my duty to share my own understanding with other dancers- to catalyze recognition of their own patterns and develop a stronger sense of self.
